Inconel Hex Bolt Description

Inconel is an austenitic nickel-chromium based superalloy that is commonly used in extreme environments. Due to the thick protective passivating oxide layer that forms when heated, Inconel can withstand immense degrees of pressure and heat that would destroy common material. Inconel also retains its strength over a broad temperature range, making it highly useful for aerospace and automotive applications.

Inconel hex bolts, also known as Hex Cap Screws, are high strength bolts that are excellent against corrosion resistance and extreme temperatures. Since the Inconel series has a high corrosion-fatigue strength, high tensile strength, and resistance to chloride-ion stress-corrosion cracking inconel hex bolts are used in many extreme environments such as submarines, propulsion motors, and the aerospace industry.

There are a number of types of Inconel, including Inconel 600, 601, 617, 625, 690, 702, 706, 718, 800 and 903. Each variation has unique traits that are beneficial in a range of circumstances or applications.

The majority of these grades are used frequently as fasteners or fixings alongside chemicals as Inconel does not easily succumb to caustic corrosion, high purity water corrosion or stress-corrosion cracking.

Inconel 600 is a nickel-chromium alloy which is incredibly resistant to a number of corrosive elements – and it is often used in engineering as it is able to maintain its structure in applications that would cause permanent, irreversible distortion to other alloys.

Inconel 601 is very similar to 600, but has an addition of aluminium, which allows it to perform even in extremely high temperatures.

617 is an alloy consisting of nickel, chromium, cobalt and molybdenum, which is both corrosion and oxidation resistant. It is most often found in chemical processing due to a resistance to a wide range of corrosive liquids.

625 is a nickel-base alloy, and its properties include outstanding strength and toughness thanks to the addition of columbium and molybdenum.

Inconel 690 is a high chromium-nickel alloy with high strength and good fabrication characteristics.
