1 Inch Flat Washer Description
1 Inch Flat Washer protect surfaces by evenly distributing torque when tightening a bolt or screw and prevent corrosion between a steel screw and an aluminum surface. A nylon washer is often placed under a machine screw to reduce noise and abrasion and offer electrical insulation.
USS pattern is the most common type of flat washer.
- Zinc plated steel. A low carbon steel for general use.
- Zinc plated grade 5 steel.
- Zinc plated grade 8 steel yellow.
- Grade 8 steel plain finish.
- Chrome plated steel.
- Hot dipped galvanized steel.
S.A.E. Flat Washers were developed and specified by the Society of Automotive Engineers to meet the requirements of automotive manufacturer applications as boradly as possible. They are of smaller Outer Diameter and thinner guages or thickness than their counterpart bolt sizes of USS Flat Washers.
How do you use a lock washer and flat washer together?
Place the lock washer under the threaded fastener.
To help it accomplish this, put the lock washer on first, below the fastener. If your project calls for other washers or hardware elements, they should go on before the lock washer so that it can hold them in place
What is the difference between a fender washer and a flat washer?
A fender washer, though similar in shape to a standard washer, differs in that the outside diameter is traditionally much larger in proportion to the center hole. With this design, a fender washer can be placed under the head of a bolt or nut to help distribute forces applied when tightening.
What is the difference between a flat washer and a spring washer?
A spring washer assembly is placed under the nut to prevent loosening of the nut. Spring washers are used for loosening, flat washers are not loose-locked, and flat washers only increase contact area. The flat washer is only to increase the contact area, and the spring washer can be loosened.
Are washers necessary?
Most notably, washers protect the surface from damage during installation. They distribute the pressure and prevent the fastener from moving or corroding. Skipping on washers can dramatically reduce the lifespan of how your product is put together.
When should you use a washer?
The washer helps prevent damage to the surface of the object being fastened. In most cases where the bolt is easier to turn, the bolt has a round head that will cause less damage anyway. For the same reason, lock washers always go on the nut side to stop the nut moving.
