Introduction to the performance characteristics of stainless steel screws

Stainless steel generally refers to steel that has the ability to resist corrosion by air, water, acid, alkali salt or other media.

According to the different alloy components, the focus is on rust resistance and acid resistance.

Although some steels are rust-proof, they are not necessarily acid-resistant, and acid-resistant steels are usually rust-proof.

Austenitic stainless steel is mainly used to produce fasteners. In people’s daily life, the stainless steel that is often referred to is also austenitic stainless steel.

The stainless steel fasteners we use mainly use austenitic 302, 304, 316 and “low nickel” 201 as raw materials.

1.Stainless steel screws are a family of iron alloys, where the chromium content exceeds 12% chromium, which is an anti-corrosion component.

Therefore, all stainless steels have overcoming corrosion resistance. Generally speaking, if the chromium content exceeds, the better the corrosion resistance.

2.Nickel elements in stainless steel screws are used as fasteners. In the process of using stainless steel as materials, the use of nickel elements has been repeated many times.

However, as the global price of nickel has risen, the price of fasteners has also been affected.

In order to alleviate the cost pressure and improve the competitiveness of fasteners, fastener manufacturers especially searched for alternative materials and produced low-nickel stainless steel fasteners.

3.If the fasteners in stainless steel screws use stainless steel as the main material, you must understand the magnetism of stainless steel itself.

Stainless steel is generally considered to be non-magnetic, but in fact, austenitic series materials have undergone certain processing techniques.

It is possible that a certain degree of magnetism appears, but it is also incorrect to think that magnetism is the standard that determines the quality of stainless steel fasteners.

4.In addition to iron and chromium, all stainless steel also contains carbon. But the carbon content is very low and is carefully controlled.

The reason is that carbon can combine with chromium to form carbides, so the chromium component in it resists corrosion.

Therefore, in order to achieve the anti-corrosion effect, when the carbon content increases, the chromium content should be increased accordingly.
