Hex Flange Nut is a nut that has a wide flange at one end that acts as an integrated washer. This serves to distribute the pressure of the nut over the part being secured, reducing the chance of damage to the part and making it less likely to loosen as a result of an uneven fastening surface.

These nuts are mostly hexagonal in shape and are made up of hardened steel and often coated with zinc.

flange nut is a nut that has a wide flange at one end that acts as an integrated washer. This serves to distribute the pressure of the nut over the part being secured, reducing the chance of damage to the part and making it less likely to loosen as a result of an uneven fastening surface.

A self-aligning nut, also known as a spherical nut or leveling nut, is a type of nut that is used in applications where the fastener is not perpendicular to the surface the nut anchors to.

It achieves this action by using a flange nut inside a specially shaped dished-out washer. They are commonly used in the aerospace industry. If this nut were not used the object would have to be spot faced perpendicular to the fastener.

Hex Flange Nuts

Hex Flange Nuts are hex nuts with a wide flanged portion near one end that acts as an integrated non-spinning washer. Flange nuts are used to spread the load placed on the nut over a wider surface area to prevent the installation material from damage. The flange acts as a washer which allows the nut to fasten evenly to the surface of the installation material.

It may be jagged to provide locking. The serrations are angled so that the nut will not rotate in the direction of loosening the nut. It cannot be used with washers or on scratched surfaces due to serrations. The serration helps prevent the vibration of the nut from moving the fastener, thereby maintaining the retention of the nut.

Some flange nuts are equipped with rotating flanges, which helps to form a more stable structure without affecting the finished product like serrated flange nuts. Rotating flange nuts are mainly used to connect wood and plastic.

Sometimes both sides of the nut are serrated, allowing locking on either side.
The self-aligning nut has a convex spherical bend that cooperates with a concave dish washer to allow the nut to be tightened on a surface that is not perpendicular to the nut.
